Patni Capital Algo designs, tests and runs rule-based trading strategies for Indian index options. The firm is led by a software engineer who still writes much of its code himself.

The story

Patni Capital Algo started with a simple observation: most trading mistakes are not about information, they are about behaviour. Fear, hesitation and the urge to act on a headline pull people away from their own plan.

Our answer was to write the plan down as code. Since 2020 we have built algorithmic strategies for Indian index options in which every entry, exit and stop is decided before the market opens, and the computer simply follows the rules.

That work is now carried on by Patni Capital Pvt. Ltd., a company registered in Maharashtra and recognised as a startup by DPIIT. Our strategies are available on Tradetron, where they run in each user’s own broker account.

  2. 2020Algorithmic trading begins: the first rule-based strategies for Indian index options.
  3. 2021A full-time move into algorithmic trading.
  4. 2024Incorporated as Patni Capital Pvt. Ltd.
  5. TodayDPIIT-recognised startup. Strategy creator on Tradetron, felicitated at BSE and featured on the Tradetron Podcast.

Software Engineer and Quant Trader

Akshay Patni is an engineer who became a trader. He spent around seven years building software at Accenture, Cognizant, LTI, Lionbridge and Germin8 before moving into algorithmic trading full time.

He has traded options for more than ten years. That combination of writing production software and living with the market every day shapes how Patni Capital Algo works: ideas are treated as code, tested before they go live and reviewed after.

He holds an MCA from MIT College of Engineering, Aurangabad, is NISM certified, and still writes much of the firm’s code himself.
